If you’ve landed here, there’s a good chance you’re dreaming of a Garden of the Gods elopement—and let me just say, you have amazing taste! Congratulations on your engagement! I’m so glad you’re here, and I can’t wait to share everything you need to know to plan the Garden of the Gods elopement of your dreams.
First, a quick intro! I’m Amazing (yep, that’s really my name!) and I’m a Colorado elopement photographer who’s spent lots of time capturing love stories at Garden of the Gods. From sunrise ceremonies with glowing red rocks to golden hour portraits with Pikes Peak in the background, I know this park like the back of my hand—and I’m here to help you make the most of it.
Whether you’re looking for the perfect ceremony spot, wondering about permits, or just want to know where to catch the best light for photos, this guide is packed with everything you need to start planning. Let’s dive in!
Garden of the Gods isn’t just drop-dead gorgeous—it’s also packed with deep history and cultural significance that makes it feel even more special. Those towering red rocks? They’ve been around for millions of years, slowly shaped by geological forces and erosion into the jaw-dropping formations we see today. It’s wild to think about, right?
Long before it became a public park, this land was considered sacred by Native American tribes, including the Ute, Cheyenne, and Arapaho. They called it the “Red Rock Corral” and used it as a place for ceremonies, storytelling, and connection. There’s something really beautiful about knowing that this space has always been a place for meaningful moments—and that we’re still adding to that story today.
Fast forward to 1859, when two surveyors were exploring the area. One of them looked around and said something along the lines of, “This would be a great place for the gods to gather”—and just like that, the name Garden of the Gods was born. Pretty fitting, right?
Then in 1879, Charles Elliott Perkins (a railroad exec with a soft spot for nature) bought a big chunk of the land, wanting to keep it safe and untouched. When he passed away, his family gifted it to the city of Colorado Springs in 1909—with one beautiful condition: that it always stay free and open to the public.
And that’s exactly what it is today—free, accessible, and full of wonder. Whether you’re here to say your vows, take epic elopement photos, or just soak in the magic, Garden of the Gods is one of those places that sticks with you. It’s timeless, awe-inspiring, and the kind of setting that makes your love story feel even more epic.
Garden of the Gods is home to a diverse array of wildlife, making it an exciting place for nature lovers. While exploring the park, you might encounter mule deer, foxes, and bighorn sheep. Bird watchers can delight in spotting various bird species, including red-tailed hawks, falcons, and many songbirds. The park’s unique rock formations provide excellent habitats for reptiles such as lizards and snakes. Wildlife adds an extra element of beauty and wonder to your elopement experience, so be sure to respect their space and observe from a distance.
Scenic Beauty: Garden of the Gods is just unreal. Think towering red rock formations, vibrant greenery, and the mountains rolling in behind it all—it’s like stepping into a painting, and it makes every moment feel extra magical.
Accessibility: One of the best parts? It’s super easy to get around! Whether it’s just the two of you or you’re bringing a few guests, there are tons of spots with well-maintained paths and nearby parking, so everyone can enjoy the experience without any stress.
Free Admission: Yep—you read that right! The park is totally free to visit, which means you get epic views and an unforgettable backdrop without spending a dime on a venue. Budget-friendly and jaw-droppingly gorgeous? Yes, please!
Garden of the Gods is not only a beautiful place to say “I do,” but it also offers several stunning locations for elopement photos. Here are three must-visit spots:
High Point Overlook is pure magic—it’s one of those places that makes you pause, take a deep breath, and just feel how special the moment is. With wide-open views of the entire park and Pikes Peak off in the distance, it’s the kind of spot that was made for dreamy, windswept elopement photos.
This is my go-to for those golden hour shots where everything glows and the whole scene feels like a fairytale. The sunsets here? Unreal. Think warm light spilling over the rocks, soft shadows, and the most romantic vibe ever. Whether you’re sharing your vows or just soaking it all in together, High Point has this quiet, awe-inspiring energy that makes every photo feel deeply emotional and full of love.
If you’re all about big views and peaceful moments, this spot is 100% worth it.
Balanced Rock is such a fun and iconic spot—it’s basically the postcard photo of Garden of the Gods, and it absolutely lives up to the hype. This massive boulder looks like it’s somehow balancing on the tiniest little base, and it makes for such a playful, jaw-dropping backdrop for your elopement photos.
It’s super easy to access (you can literally pull right up to it), which makes it a great stop if you want a mix of epic scenery and lighthearted moments without any hiking involved. Couples love getting creative here—posing like they’re holding it up, dancing in front of it, or just sharing a quiet laugh while surrounded by all that wild, red rock beauty.
Balanced Rock brings a little drama and a whole lot of charm to your elopement day. It’s perfect for adding something bold and totally unforgettable to your photo gallery.
Siamese Twins is hands-down one of the most magical spots in Garden of the Gods—especially if you’re dreaming of that perfect shot with Pikes Peak framed between the rocks. This natural “window” in the red stone is iconic for a reason, and it brings such a romantic, almost storybook vibe to your elopement photos.
The short trail to get there is super manageable, and the payoff is so worth it. Once you’re at the top, you’ll find plenty of space to tuck away for a sweet, quiet moment together—just you two (plus me with a camera!) and that stunning mountain view. It’s one of those spots where everything just feels extra special, whether you’re exchanging vows or sharing a just-married kiss at golden hour.
It’s peaceful, photogenic, and a little adventurous without being overwhelming. If you want that classic Garden of the Gods magic with a unique twist, Siamese Twins is such a dreamy choice.
Jaycee Plaza (sometimes called Chuckwagon Pavilion) is located near the main parking area and Central Garden. It is one of the few ceremony-friendly spots in Garden of the Gods that feels a little more structured—while still being totally surrounded by that red rock magic. It’s a circular stone area with built-in seating, so if you’re inviting a few guests or have loved ones who would appreciate a place to sit, this is a solid choice.
The views here are beautiful—you’ll still have those towering formations in the background—but what makes Jaycee Plaza really stand out is how accessible it is. It’s close to parking, easy to find, and doesn’t require any hiking, which makes things simple on your elopement day. Just something to note: because it’s in a busier part of the park, there can be a bit of foot traffic, especially on weekends or during the middle of the day. If you want a more peaceful experience, I recommend going for a weekday morning or closer to sunset.
It’s perfect for couples who want a little more structure without losing that wild Garden of the Gods feel.
Sentinel Plaza is one of those hidden gems that people don’t always think of right away—but once you’re there, it’s like stepping into your own private corner of Garden of the Gods. Tucked between towering red rock formations, this little plaza feels cozy and intimate while still showing off those classic views we all love.
It’s a beautiful choice for couples who want a more tucked-away ceremony space, and it’s especially great if you’re bringing a few guests. The rocks create a natural sense of privacy, almost like nature built a little amphitheater just for your vows. And because you’re surrounded by those dramatic formations, every angle is a good photo angle. Seriously.
It’s peaceful, romantic, and feels just a little more off-the-beaten-path while still being super accessible. If you’re looking for a place that combines quiet moments with bold scenery, Sentinel Plaza is such a sweet spot.
Three Graces Plaza is one of those spots that feels like it was made just for sweet, intimate elopements. Tucked between three stunning sandstone spires that stand side-by-side like graceful guardians, this location has such a peaceful, almost sacred energy to it. It’s quiet, romantic, and totally gorgeous.
It’s perfect for couples who want something a little more private while still being surrounded by that jaw-dropping red rock beauty. The plaza can host up to 25 people, so it’s a great choice if you’re inviting a few of your closest people along. And while the nearby parking is limited, it’s just a short (and really pretty!) walk from a larger lot—totally worth it for the moment you round the corner and see those formations glowing in the light.
If you’re dreaming of a heartfelt ceremony in a tucked-away corner of Garden of the Gods, Three Graces Plaza might just steal your heart.
Garden of the Gods is not just a beautiful backdrop for photos; it’s also an ideal location for intimate elopement ceremonies. The park offers several designated areas where couples can exchange vows amidst the stunning scenery. Here are a few tips for planning your ceremony at Garden of the Gods.
Permits: The good news—if you’re planning a small elopement with fewer than 25 people, you usually don’t need a permit to get married at Garden of the Gods. That said, I always recommend double-checking with the park just to be safe. Things can shift from season to season, and it never hurts to be extra prepared so your day can go off without a hitch.
Timing: This park is popular—and for good reason! But that also means it can get pretty busy, especially on weekends and holidays. If you’re dreaming of a quiet, more private experience, I highly recommend planning your ceremony for sunrise or golden hour on a weekday. Trust me, the light is magical and the park feels like it’s all yours.
Accessibility: One of the things I love most about Garden of the Gods is how accessible it is. Whether you’re eloping just the two of you or bringing guests who may need easy paths, there are several beautiful locations with minimal walking required. The Central Garden area is especially great—it’s paved, easy to navigate, and has those postcard-worthy rock formations all around.
Weather: Ah, Colorado… where you can experience all four seasons in a single afternoon. The weather here can be a little unpredictable, so it’s always smart to have a backup plan—just in case. The nearby Visitor & Nature Center can be a great option if you need quick shelter, and I’m always happy to help come up with a weather-friendly backup if needed!
Garden of the Gods is truly one of the most breathtaking places to say “I do.” Between the red rock formations, sweeping mountain views, and that naturally romantic energy in the air, it’s the kind of place that feels made for love and adventure.
If your pup is part of your love story (because let’s be honest—they’re basically family), you’re going to love this… Garden of the Gods is super dog-friendly! As long as your furry friend is on a six-foot leash, they’re welcome to explore right alongside you throughout the park. That means you can absolutely include them in your ceremony, your portraits, or even just a sweet little walk through the red rocks after you say “I do.”
And if you want to let them stretch their legs a bit, there’s even an off-leash area just south of Gateway Road—between 30th Street and the Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site—where they can run wild and celebrate with you. It’s such a fun, laid-back way to include your four-legged bestie in your big day.
If your dog is tagging along (yay!), here are a few things to keep in mind so they stay happy, safe, and comfortable during your adventure:
Bring Water: Colorado sunshine can be no joke—especially in the summer—so make sure your pup stays hydrated! A collapsible water bowl is super handy to toss in your bag and whip out whenever they need a little refresh.
Protect Those Paws: The trails and rocks can get hot and a little rough on sensitive paws, especially during warmer months. Dog booties are a great option if your pup isn’t used to rocky terrain (plus, they’re adorable in photos).
Watch the Weather: If it’s a hot day, try to plan your ceremony or photos for the cooler parts of the morning or evening. Keep an eye on your pup for any signs of overheating—lots of panting, drooling, or low energy are all cues to take a break in the shade.
Pack the Poop Bags: Let’s keep this magical place clean and beautiful! Bring waste bags and be sure to clean up after your furry friend. The park (and everyone else visiting it) will thank you!
Just in Case: While we hope everything goes smoothly, it’s always good to know that Colorado Springs has great veterinary clinics nearby in case of an emergency. Better safe than sorry when it comes to your best buddy.
Colorado’s self-solemnizing marriage law means you don’t need an officiant or witness, allowing your dog to be a part of your ceremony. Many couples have their dog “sign” their marriage license with a paw print, creating a memorable keepsake.
Travel: Flying in? The Colorado Springs Airport is the closest option—just a quick drive from Garden of the Gods, which makes things super convenient. If you’re flying into Denver instead, that’s totally doable too! It’s about an hour and a half drive, and honestly, the views on the way down are pretty stunning. Rental cars are easy to grab at either airport, and they’re definitely the best way to explore all the beauty around here at your own pace.
Accommodations: Whether you’re after luxury or something cozy and low-key, Colorado Springs has you covered. The Broadmoor is perfect if you want to go all out (it’s seriously stunning), but there are also tons of charming bed and breakfasts, cute boutique hotels, and dreamy Airbnbs that feel super private and personal. You’ll find something that fits your vibe—no matter what kind of elopement experience you’re creating.
Colorado Springs has so much to explore—whether you’re planning a little pre-elopement adventure or just want to soak it all in after the “I do’s.” From epic views to cozy local spots, there’s something here for everyone to enjoy.
If you’re the outdoorsy type (or just want to soak in more of those views), there are so many incredible trails to explore in and around Garden of the Gods. Whether you’re up for a casual stroll, a scenic bike ride, or something more adventurous like rock climbing, there’s truly something for everyone. And if you’re feeling bold, Pikes Peak is right around the corner—hello, mountain magic! No matter your skill level, these trails serve up the kind of beauty that’ll have you grinning the whole way.
If you’ve never been to the top of a 14er, this is your sign! Pikes Peak is one of Colorado’s most famous mountains, and the views from the summit are absolutely next level. You can drive yourself up the scenic highway, hop on the shuttle, or even take the historic Cog Railway for a super fun, no-sweat option. Once you’re at the top, you’ll be greeted with panoramic views that stretch for miles—it seriously feels like you’re on top of the world.
And yes… they have donuts at the summit. (No idea why they taste better up there, but they just do.) Whether you go for the adventure or the sugar rush, visiting Pikes Peak is a must while you’re in Colorado Springs.
Just a few minutes from Garden of the Gods, Manitou Springs is the cutest little mountain town with all the charm. Think cozy cafés, eclectic art galleries, crystal shops, and local boutiques that are so fun to explore. You can sip from the naturally carbonated mineral springs around town (yes, they taste wild and yes, it’s part of the experience!), or just stroll the streets hand-in-hand and soak up the laid-back, artsy vibe.
It’s the perfect spot for a relaxed post-elopement lunch, a sweet treat from a local bakery, or even a quirky souvenir to remember your day. Manitou’s got that magical, small-town energy that just makes you want to slow down and enjoy the moment.
If you’re looking for something totally unique (and adorable) to do while you’re in Colorado Springs, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is such a fun pick! It’s the only mountain zoo in the country, which means not only do you get to hang with animals from all over the world—you also get sweeping views of the city while you do it. It’s seriously a vibe.
One of the absolute highlights? Feeding the giraffes! You can hand-feed them right from the walkway, and they’re the sweetest, goofiest gentle giants ever. There’s also a sky ride that takes you up over the zoo for an epic view of the animals and the mountains. It’s kind of the perfect combo of adventure, cuteness, and Colorado beauty.
If you have a free morning or afternoon while you’re here, the zoo is such a memorable stop—especially if you’re into animals, love a good view, or just want to do something a little different before or after your elopement day.
If you’re a history buff (or just love a little vintage charm), the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is such a cool stop while you’re in town. Located right in the heart of downtown in a gorgeous old courthouse, this museum tells the story of the city—how it started, the people who shaped it, and all the wild and wonderful things that make Colorado Springs what it is today.
You’ll find everything from beautifully preserved artifacts and vintage clothing to exhibits on Native American history, local legends, and the early pioneers who settled in the area. It’s one of those places where you walk through and feel the stories come to life.
Best part? It’s totally free to visit! It’s the perfect slow-paced afternoon activity—especially if you want something cozy and meaningful before or after your elopement day.
If you’re in the mood for cobblestone charm and cute local vibes, Old Colorado City is a total must-visit while you’re in town. It’s just a few minutes from Garden of the Gods, and it feels like stepping into a sweet little storybook—think art galleries, cozy cafés, adorable boutiques, and historic buildings that are full of character.
It’s the perfect spot for a relaxed afternoon walk, a romantic post-elopement dinner, or a little souvenir shopping to remember your trip. There’s always something going on—especially on weekends—from farmer’s markets and festivals to live music and art walks. Plus, the food scene? So good. Whether you’re craving handcrafted cocktails, wood-fired pizza, or a scoop of local ice cream, you’ll find it here.
It’s one of those places that just makes you slow down, hold hands, and soak up the moment. Old Colorado City has heart, history, and the kind of charm that sticks with you long after you leave.
One of the best things about eloping at Garden of the Gods? It can be super budget-friendly! The park doesn’t charge any fees for small ceremonies (yay!), which means you get an absolutely stunning backdrop without the price tag of a traditional venue.
That said, there are still a few things to keep in mind when planning your budget—like travel, accommodations, photography (hi, it’s me!), florals, and any little extras you might want to include. You may also need a permit for certain vendors or setups, depending on your plans, so it’s always good to leave a little wiggle room just in case.
But overall? Garden of the Gods gives you all the epic beauty without breaking the bank—and that’s something worth celebrating!
Garden of the Gods is seriously stunning, but it’s still a wild, natural space—so a little prep goes a long way! Be sure to bring plenty of water (especially in the warmer months), wear comfy shoes with good grip, and keep an eye on the weather—it can shift quickly out here in Colorado.
Most of the spots we’ll visit are easy to access, but it’s always a good idea to be mindful of your surroundings, especially if you’re exploring near rocks or uneven trails. And just so you know—you’re never too far from help. The nearest medical facilities are right in Colorado Springs, so emergency services are nearby if needed (though hopefully, all we’ll be calling for is more golden hour light).
I am a huge FOODIE so I hope you enjoy my personal 5 Star recommendations for restaurants! After your elopement, celebrate your love with a delicious meal at one of Colorado Springs’ top restaurants. Here are a few of my favorites and they are all so unique, unlike anywhere you’ve dined before!

Planning your dreamy day at Garden of the Gods? Here are a few must-know tips to help keep things smooth, stress-free, and magical from start to finish:
Colorado’s elevation is no joke—so give yourself a little time to adjust! Stay super hydrated, take it easy with caffeine and alcohol, and if you’re coming from lower elevations, try to arrive a day or two early to acclimate. No one wants to feel dizzy or tired when they’re about to say “I do!”
We love this land—and keeping it beautiful means taking care of it. Be sure to stick to trails, avoid picking flowers or stepping into fragile areas, and pack out everything you bring in (even if it’s just a napkin or a snack wrapper). I always keep a little trash bag handy, and I’m happy to help make sure we leave the park even better than we found it.
One of the coolest things about eloping in Colorado? You can self-solemnize—which means no officiant or witnesses are legally required. Yep, you can literally marry yourselves (how amazing is that?). Just make sure you’ve got your marriage license ready and check with the specific county for details. And yes—if your dog is joining you, some counties will let them “sign” the license with a paw print. It’s as cute as it sounds.

Garden of the Gods is one of those places that just feels meant for love stories. Between the jaw-dropping red rocks, peaceful trails, and that wide-open Colorado sky, it’s the kind of setting that turns your elopement into something truly unforgettable. Whether you’re hiking to a quiet overlook, sharing vows at sunrise, or grabbing tacos in town afterward—your day here will be full of meaning, beauty, and joy.
I hope this guide helps you dream up a day that feels so you—and if you need someone to help capture all the magic along the way, I’d be so honored to be part of it. Let’s make some memories you’ll never forget!
I’m a little… different. Think of me as the chaotic good of wedding photography—I thrive on creativity, spontaneity, and capturing love stories that break the mold. I’m a HUGE nerd and a hopeless romantic.
Posing can feel as awkward as your first time waking up to, "oh it's you, you're finally awake." (Currently holding my breathe for the couples that know that reference!) I have been there! That’s why you deserve a photographer who gets it, who makes you feel comfortable, and who will have you laughing so hard you forget the camera is even there. (Seriously, I’m incredibly silly, and I’ll probably say something ridiculous just to get that real, genuine smile out of you.)
I live for the unfiltered, joy-filled, beautifully messy moments—whether it’s the emotion of your first dance, the bouquet toss, or the inside jokes that only you and your partner understand. Your wedding day should be as uniquely you as your fandoms, your inside jokes, and your love story.
Are you the kind of person who follows the rules just because? No? Then why have a wedding that does? Ditch the cookie-cutter and embrace your weird, wonderful, nerdy selves. Hire not just a photographer, but a fellow geek, an adventurer, and a storyteller who will capture your love story in all its epic, legendary, and meme-worthy glory.
"Amazing is just that, amazing! It was overwhelming to find the right photographer for our engagement session and wedding, but I’m so glad we found her! At the time, my husband and I were living overseas but Amazing kept constant communication with us even with the 8 hour time difference. When we finally got to meet her in person she was so sweet and made both us feel comfortable right away. When we got back our photos from the engagement session, we knew we made the right choice! On the day of the wedding, Amazing and her team were on time, professional, and we’re able to get the shots they needed even with our large bridal party. Our photos are absolutely perfect and we couldn’t be happier. I will always recommend her to anyone who’s looking for a photographer and I hope we can use her again for more photos in the future! Thank you Amazing."

"Amazing took our engagement photos and then our wedding photos about a year later. We couldn't be more thrilled with the results! Her work is truly an art form and it's so clear to see how much she loves her career. I chose Amazing over other photographers based on her vibes alone! Her personality is everything you could want in a wedding photographer. She's professional, but without being stuffy. She knows how to have fun, she's friendly, and easy to socialize with. She's trustworthy and reliable as she was always on time. She captured all the joy and beauty of our wedding day and we will cherish our pictures forever!"
-Katlyn
"There are not enough stars I could give, or positive words I could say. Amazing was an exceptional photographer for our wedding. She helped make the day as stress free as possible. She worked seamlessly with our coordinator to capture all the best moments. The weather was uncooperative for the entire day, but that didn’t slow her down, she rolled with it. She was out in the rain with my husband and I doing our first look, and then capturing some of the most beautiful before pics. She somehow managed to be both easy going and direct. She had great communication leading up to and during the wedding day. Honestly, if she lived near me I would have Amazing take all of my professional photos! Thank you for helping to make our day absolutely perfect!"
-Samantha
"Amazing and her second photographer did an absolute fabulous job at capturing our big day! We couldn’t be more pleased with how accommodating she was during the whole process. From our engagement pictures to our wedding pictures; all of it was stunning. I wish she lived closer so she could be our photographer for all life’s precious moments. She went above and beyond and delivered more pictures than ever expected. I would recommend her to anyone that ever needs a photographer. Thanks again Amazing, your name says it all :)"
-Brandi

The pictures for both turned out absolutely incredible and she made sure to capture all of the special moments at our wedding. She is so much fun to work with and I would happily book with her again! Our wedding album was stunning and exceeded our expectations. The quality of the album was impressive and Amazing went above and beyond with this as well. Photos on her site are exactly what you can expect to receive back when you book her. You will not be disappointed!!"
